They say that kids learning in art shouldn't train in anime first, because when they get used to it they wouldn't be able to learn realism properly. While this may be part true, I still think that you can't force kids to like what they don't, and it's better if they go and figure out what they want to draw for themselves, so they develop their own style.
It's true, though, that you can see an artist's beginnings in his/her work. A realism artist would not quite be able to draw anime like anime artists do, and anime artists would leave their trademark even if they're drawing real stuff.
I'm saying this because I finally polished my realism skills, and I can now draw real-people portraits (that actually look like the person and not like some animu)!! I'm actually earning a little from it in school. I have to finish at least one charcoal portrait a day. Yayness. So to people that say anime artists can't do it, screw you all! (Gwahaha, take this, Jes!)
Bottom line: There's beauty in everything. Not one form of art is better than the other, since art is expression, and as long as they serve their purpose and make the creator happy, it's all beautiful.
Okay, end of long drabble.
